Draiskana tells the story of a fierce inhabitant of Zalesa village in the Dzukija region of Lithuania. Her everyday life drowns in an ever-growing accumulation of junk, while her home turns into a mucky sludge. Here, elements of Lithuanian folklore intertwine: sutartines (traditional polyphonic songs), proverbs, beaver castor, and jars of pickles. The film acts as a living archive of my grandparents’ village, which I embody.
The film was presented as an exhibition inside a garage in Vilnius Old Town that once belonged to my grandparents, where traces of memory, decay, and inherited landscapes circulated like a blood vessel.
